What is the real living wage?

SA Safety is accredited as a Living Wage employer, but why is supporting the Real Living Wage important to us? The minimum wage is based on a target to reach 66% of median earnings by 2024. This amount is set by the government, taking into account what is affordable for businesses.

The Real Living Wage is a different, higher amount, calculated by the Resolution Foundation. The rates are higher because they are independently-calculated, and are based on what people actually need to earn to get by.

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by over 10,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs – like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist.

The Living Wage Foundation

Getting this accreditation is important for us because it shows our committment to go above and beyond the government minimum. These are financially difficult times, and as a responsible employer we are taking a stand. We want to ensure that our employees and contractors earn a wage which is enough to live on, as defined by The Living Wage Foundation. We feel this commitment reflects our values as a company and as an employer.

What does it mean for our team?

Our commitment to the Real Living Wage is part of our commitment to the wellbeing of our team. This includes support, working conditions and training as well as pay. At SA Safety, we understand that our greatest asset is our people. We aim to create a future for our business, those who work for us and those around us where everyone involved with the growth of our business has the chance of a better quality of life, through new skills, investment and opportunity.
