Why we support the real living wage

SA Safety is a real Living Wage employer. We’re proud to be part of a movement of businesses, organisations and people ensuring that everyone can earn a wage that meets their everyday needs. Here’s why supporting the real Living Wage is important to us:

Our values and the Living Wage

We support the real Living Wage because it aligns with our values as a company. In a difficult financial climate, ensuring our team is properly paid is more important than ever. By committing to going above and beyond the statutory minimum, we can ensure that our employees and contractors earn enough for their everyday needs, as defined by The Living Wage Foundation.

What does it mean for our team?

Our support for the real Living Wage is part of our commitment to the well-being of our team. At SA Safety, we understand that our greatest asset is our people. As such, we take the physical and mental well-being of our team very seriously. We aim to create a future for our business, those who work for us and those around us; everyone involved with the growth of our business should have the chance of a better quality of life, through new skills, investment and opportunity. You can find out more about our full policy on Corporate Social Responsibility here.

What is the real Living Wage?

It’s the law that UK companies have to pay their employees a statutory minimum, also called the living wage for workers aged over 21. The amount is set taking into account what is affordable for business. We support the real Living Wage, which is the only UK wage rate which is actually based on the cost of living. As an accredited real Living Wage employer, we commit to ensure that the people who work for us earn enough to live.

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by over 10,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs – like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist.

The Living Wage Foundation

The real living wage is different because it is:

  • paid voluntarily by the employer
  • paid to over 18’s
  • calculated based on the cost of living
  • is the only UK wage rate based on living costs

The real Living Wage is now worth over £3000 per year more than the minimum wage.
