SA Safety in 2024 – A Year of Growth and Achievement

What happened at SA Safety in 2024?  Looking back, we’re proud to celebrate a year of significant milestones, developments, and accomplishments, none of which would have happened without the support of our clients and associates. Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved together:

Team Growth and Development

We were delighted to welcome five talented new team members in 2024.  Kirsty Slocombe has proved to be a powerhouse as Office Manager, ably assisted by Georgie Shaddick.  We were also fortunate to be joined by Steve Pooley as Rescue Operations Manager, Steve Manley as Lead Trainer as well as Jacob Tuckey as Facilities and Site Organiser.  From office to classroom, their unique skills and expertise have already made a positive impact to SA Safety in 2024, further strengthening our team.

Accreditations and Achievements

This year we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, underscoring our respect and support for the Armed Forces community and recognizing their invaluable contributions. Additionally, we further strengthened our commercial offering by:

  • Successfully passing UKAS ISO 9001 and 45001 audits, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to quality management and occupational health and safety.
  • Securing Achilles Accreditation, reinforcing our adherence to industry best practices and our dedication to maintaining high operational standards.
  • Cyber Essentials re-accreditation, ensuring our cybersecurity measures remain robust and resilient against evolving threats.

Training Achievements

  • Gaining Qualsafe Training Centre approval has enabled us to deliver FREC3 courses. This milestone expands our ability to provide critical first aid training and reflects our commitment to quality education.
  • We further expanded our training offerings by launching City & Guilds courses tailored to the commercial sector. This was to meet growing demand for industry-recognized certifications and we delivered 26 courses to 113 students in 2024.
  • We delivered Emergency Preparedness training to EDF Nuclear Generation emergency response teams at Hinkley Point B and Heysham 2 power stations. This amounted to in excess of 3,200 person-hours over 119 training days for 1,200 students.

To manage these new developments, we introduced a new online marketing tool. This allowed for online booking and course management as well as increasing customer engagement.

Operational Excellence

Rescue, Rope Access, and Support teams enjoyed their busiest year yet in 2024. They promoted and maintained the highest safety standards for our clients.  Now the numbers are in, and they are impressive!

  • During an 18-week maintenance outage at EP Langage we displayed our ability to deliver reliable and efficient services during critical operations. We gained excellent feedback as detailed in this case study for our safety culture, knowledge, and flexibility.
  • Across all operations and all contracts we delivered an impressive volume of service hours this year. The numbers in total:
    • Confined Space Rescue: 45,400 person-hours
    • Support (Entry Control & Fire Sentries): 13,805 person-hours
    • Rope Access: 2,500 person-hours

Infrastructure and Policies

  • We upgraded our existing fleet and added three new vehicles. This will improve our operational efficiency and reach by ensuring our team has access to reliable transportation and excellent support vehicles.
  • We also rolled out a comprehensive new suite of HR policies designed to enhance employee support, foster inclusivity, and ensure compliance with the latest regulations.

Community Impact

This year we chose to make our charitable donations to charities based near us here in the Southwest; we also chose to support causes close to the hearts of the SA Safety team.

  • We again donated to Devon charity Everything Ellie, giving £7,500 to help support this incredible charity’s mission to bring comfort to those affected by life-changing events.
  • We also contributed £8,000 to three local grassroots community rugby clubs, helping to nurture young talent and promote community spirit.

Looking forward to 2025

As we reflect on 2024 and move forward to a new chapter we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team, valued clients, and community partners who made this year such a success – we couldn’t have done it without you! With these achievements as our foundation we look forward to continuing our journey of excellence in 2025 and beyond.
