Supporting UK energy production
Our rescue and support teams had a busy month in June creating a safer working environment for our clients. Teams deployed to power stations across the UK to support essential maintenance works and to deliver training. Additionally, work continued at Devonport Dockyard for clients Babcock, Volkerstevin and Morgan Siddall. As a result, we logged an impressive 3,433 Rescue Team hours and 3,550 Support Team hours in June.
Creating a safer working environment
We deployed a 15-person rescue and support team to Langage Power Station, Plymouth, where the team are providing essential safety support during a planned 60-day maintenance outage. Additionally, we also sent a 6-person rescue team to support a 24/7 maintenance outage at MVV Ridham near Sittingbourne. This was a 24-day deployment at this highly modern and efficient combined heat and power (CHP) biomass power plant.
In the northwest, the training team deployed a 6-person team to EDF Nuclear facility Heysham 2 near Lancaster; the only site in the UK to have two operating nuclear power stations. Once on-site, our training team delivered 10 days of continuation training to the Emergency Response Teams at Heysham 2.
Making a Difference
Our rescue team focuses on safety at all times and, as our customers know, our team members are always vigilant about workplace safety. As a result, we were delighted when their diligence was recognised with an award from a valued client.
Rescue Team Leader Kevin Aucott received his award from the Senior Management Team at Langage Power Station. Kev spotted a workplace hazard while working as part of our team, and moved swiftly to make the situation safe. His safety intervention prevented what could have been a serious incident and highlighted the importance of always creating a safer working environment.
