SA Safety offer specialist training and services solutions, working across the UK to deliver bespoke solutions to clients in the high-risk utilities, industrial and manufacturing sectors. Since 2018, we have provided over 30,000 rescue team man-hours to major facilities within the UK power supply infrastructure, and delivered bespoke training to over 2,000 students, offering training on site or at our own fully equipped specialist training centre.

Our team of highly qualified instructors come from Fire Service or forces backgrounds, with extensive training and rescue experience. Our team maintain and develop their skills through our own programme of continuous professional development and training to ensure that all of our training and support services are based on industry best practice.

We offer audit reporting, assessment and gap analysis to make recommendations to help you develop a safe system of work. Through our bespoke training, competency and skills development, combined with our specialist support services, SA Safety can lead you to a safer working environment.

The Team

Mark Shaddick
Managing Director

Mark set up SA Safety after 24 years with the Fire and Rescue Service, where he went from operational firefighter to manager of the Access and Rescue School for the Fire Service Training Academy. 

Mark developed and delivered the New Dimension Urban Search and Rescue Project and trained over 1000 fire service personnel. He holds a Diploma in Technical Response and Incident Management for Specialist Recovery. Mark specialises in training for confined space, Rescue 3 water, working at height and rope rescue. His long list of other qualifications includes NEBOSH, instructor level qualifications for fire behaviour, positive pressure ventilation, and Urban Search and Rescue. He holds a TAQA, City and Guilds Assessor, internal and external QA, and ISO 45001 Lead Auditor and is a Fellow of the Institute of Search and Technical Rescue.

Andy Appleton
Commercial Director

Andy joined SA Safety as Commercial Director in 2019 having spent 30 years in the banking and financial services industry and a year with the commercial division of a local authority business.

Andy’s focus is on developing our product and services proposition to match our customers and market expectations, and on driving our growth through product innovation in the high-risk utilities and industrial sectors. He has a passion for developing long-term sustainable relationships through tailored solutions that are cost effective and create a safer working environment for customers, their staff and contractors. Andy is also responsible for governance, including maintaining the high quality of service delivery our customers expect, which is underpinned by our UKAS ISO 9001 and 45001 certification.

ISO & Projects Lead

Sally is a highly experienced business and project manager with a career history spanning both the private and public sectors, bringing to SA Safety a wealth of experience.

Sally brings to SA Safety a wide range of experience, particularly in training and self-development, public safety, business growth and project management. Sally's work ensures the smooth running of the business wherever and whenever we are needed.

Dave Tucker
Training Lead

Dave joined SA Safety in 2019 after nearly 12 years in the Royal Marines followed by 17 years in the Fire Service.  As a former firefighter, Dave brings to SA Safety a high level of practical experience.

Dave's experience includes working at a specialist rescue fire station, and providing maritime firefighting training for both internal staff and to the commercial sector. Now Dave is responsible for delivering confined space training and emergency scheme training for our most high-profile clients and has been key in ensuring that staff in high-risk workplace settings are suitably trained to deal with emergency situations.

Neil Winslet
Trainer

After 5 years in the Royal Navy, Neil joined the fire service in 1992. During his nearly 30 years as a firefighter, he progressed to Wholetime Watch Manager and Retained Station Manager roles.

Having gained a wide range of practical experience in the fire service covering operations, firefighter development, business safety, training and community fire safety, Neil is amply equipped to deliver training to our industrial and utilities clients.

Steve Manley
Trainer & Support

Steve joined us at SA Safety in 2019 after a career spanning 6 years in the British Army followed by 26 years in the Fire Service in both fire fighting and training roles. 

Withing the Fire Service Steve taught specialist rescue techniques, including water, boat and rope rescue and confined space, equipping him to work as our trainer for clients from high-risk industries and utilities.
